I run two servers, and I’ve had no issue with either of them up until this update. Now they both let ME in but my gf is timing out before even loading mods. The title of this post is what I’m seeing in the loading logs of both servers, and I’ve changed absolutely nothing in either of them; so what’s causing this, and how do I fix it

I got mine server working, and it shows up under unoffical now..2 friends verified. I just worked 12 hours last night so bear with me, as I try to share what worked for me. I use ASM and run a dedicated server and my friends couldn’t see me listed anymore in their favorites or through unofficial listings. Occasionally the other day when I was trying to make it work they would sometimes find me, but would always get ‘timed out error’.
Before the problem strarting happeing my query port was 27015, and my server port was 7777, and I only had these forwarded in my router. This morning I checked defender firewall settings..all were good. I checked my router’s forwarded ports next and noticed that my Ip for these ports was off by one number..hadn’t been in my router in a year..don’t know why. I changed it to my correct ip and went ahead and forwarded 7776 through 7778, and 27014 through 27016..all set for tcp and udp. Loaded Ark server manager and used my usual settings of 7777 and 27015. I forgot to mention..the first thing I did when I got home was power down and back up the router.
Still get the gethostnamefailed () thing, but my server shows up for my friends and no timeout errors anymore. Hope this helps someone..going to be bed now..
Oh yeah..my server runs Ragnorok, and 12 mods..one being Structures plus..if that helps.
I’m in the same boat. Older severs that I had setup with ports between 7777-7785 and 27015-27019 are still working. Trying to add a crystal island server to the mix and it simply is not showing up in the game browser. It is showing up in steam if you add it by ip:port. But if you try to connect it refuses/times out. Ark Server Manager has correctly forwarded relevant ports for the new server (at least in the same manner as the prior servers).
Not sure if this will help you or not, but i just confirmed that Shootergame is useing a +1 port by default now. Current ports are hardcoded as 7777, 27015 in the server, raw sockets is disabled.
Ok i got it working now so basically the crossplay thing did nothing. Open 7777 TCP/UDP did the magic for me.
have fun if you have an external firewall dont forget to open it there only windows isnt enough then.
This is what did it for me. When I tried hosting my server nothing would show up on the server list. Also every time one of my friends tried to connect or I try to connect to the dedicated server I get a timeout issue. In my logs the only error I could see was the gethostname failed. As soon as I added all the port as TCP and UDP for my port forwarding. It started working. Before I only had UDP with the exception of the rcon one that was TCP.
Now it’s showing on the server list and my friends can join. Thanks!
I had it on both all along though. So. is it one of those cases where if you had it only on one then changed to both it’ll work but if u had it on both to begin with then you’re out of luck?

ShootergameServer.exe does NOT use TCP for the server and query port. It only will use TCP on a random listening port. Changing settings to do both UDP & TCP vs just UDP will not change anything. I for one, run both UDP & TCP and still have the issue.

Is there any way or would you happen to know how to transfer and what files to transfer over to Ark Server manager since I was using the ShootergameServer.exe thing

It sort of helped me. It seems that you can’t really use any arbitrary range of ports anymore, or at least I couldn’t. Crystal isles starts up fine, along with any other sever that I run with ports close to 7777, and 27015 to 27020. It isn’t findable if you use a listening port like say 37015, even with proper forwarding. Pain in the ass because I’ve got server files for every ark.
I wonder if this a combination of raw sockets disabled AND the ability to resolve steam sockets? The servers with funky port numbers show up in the steam browser, but cannot be joined for me. I was not using raw sockets prior to update either.
Whats stopping people from connecting to servers? On our cluster we have some players like myself who can connect using steam connect but then there are others who always get «Server is not responding»
All our ports were changed due to this update and they have been opened. Finding the server doesn’t seem to be the issue. I changed the ports a second time and it worked for a few more players but some still cannot connect.
Wondering if I am doing something wrong T-T
I fixed it by spacing my ports out (Port + 1)
Anyone getting these new codes or are they not getting anything more then «Number of cores 6»?

Having the same problem here. Getting the «SteamSocketsOpenSource: gethostname failed ()» error in the startup-log.
The server still appears in the list in-game, but I get the timeout-error when attempting to join it. Same happens when my gf tries on her computer here next to me. My friend positioned in another city, (in other words, not local) is however able to join it, and for him everything works as normal.
Happened with the big Ark-update now recently. Versions 311.74 and 311.79 (asm)
Have tried the «extra ports theory» mentioned here, opening 7776 and 7778 as well as 27014 and 27016. Didn’t help.
Eager to get this fixed.
Having same issues with my server, no raw sockets, ports wide opened, even just a single server running. Rolling the server back to a previous version didn’t help for client 311.79 to connect as I was having the same timeout with the new client version. I was able to connect from a machine that I keep ark updates suspended on though. So this is partially a client as well as a server issue as some other people have noted.
The ‘necessary server args’ section. Has anyone tried adding the ‘-crossplay’ lines and successfully consistently gotten connection working? I don’t want to update my server again and I’m copying over the 211GB client from my other machine so I can continue to play on my server so I don’t want to update again to bother testing it.
Can anyone with ongoing issues thats still troubleshooting, confirm if this has any effect?

I JUST SOLVED THE PROBLEM ON MY SERVER!
I have 5 ARKS on my server: Ragnarok, The Island, Valguero, Extinction and now Crystal Isles.
These two maps had ports in quick succession (27021/27022 and 7778/7779).
I just turned off The Island and gave it ports which were farther away from Valguero (27040 and 7790). When I booted the map, it worked without issues. Only issue was that the map was 0 days old, but profiles and structures were still there.
Meanwhile I’m just trying to start one map on my server and still get the issue.
