Can somebody help me clear the differences of the Substance Painter versions.
Here is a post from the SP developer:
2) Purchase perpetual licenses
Ca somebody clear me out on what is the difference of the two options.
Here is how it will work:
— if you purchase on Steam, you get Substance Painter 2 with updates up to September 30. Steam does not allow to make a «maintenance» depending on the purchase date.
— in October 2017, if you contact us we will give you a stand alone license with a maintenance depending on your purchase date: you would thus get the same rights than if you purchase on the website.
You are exactly right about the differences.
Thanks again and have a nice day!

I believe that Steam already includes the VAT in the price.
Thanks for the clarification. That makes more sense now.
And thanks again for your time!
I’ve got a question about purchase. Do I get VAT invoice if I buy it from Steam?

I think Steam offers an option to get it, but I can’t confirm at 100%.
If bought from Steam will SD/SP/Indie license convert into a 2017 numberless version. Or will they have to be purchased additionally?
I own both SD and SP versions and until yesterday was renting a Live subscription, but I cancelled because none of this makes any sense to me.
It seems to me that there is ZERO (0) reason to buy Substance 6/ Substance Painter 2 when the rent to own 2017 subscription is cheaper and you get the newest version now.

Substance Painter is already 2017.1 version on Steam.
Updates will go on in Substance Painter 2 up to September 30, 2017.
Regarding your last question, if you don’t have any license the cheapest way is clearly with the monthly payment.
I own Steam Substance Designer 6 and Painter 1.
Substance Painter is already 2017.1 version on Steam.

This whole naming convention has me confused. Substance Painter 2 /is/ 2017.1?
If Substance Painter is already 2017.1, then current Steam owners of SP2 (aka 2017.1) have support up until Sep. 30 2017. Okay. I think I get it now.

I currently own Substance Painter 1 (original). I still need to aquire substance Painter 2017.
I also own Substance Designer 6, which isn’t 2017 yet, right? Obviously I want 2017 for both, but I still don’t know the best approach.
[Honestly, both versions should have been renamed at the same time BEFORE the switch-over]
I contacted support yesterday about this and have yet to receive any help.

Substance Designer 6 is going to become «Substance Designer» (2017.x builds) next week. You will have updates up to June 30, 2018.
So in your case, you have 2 options:
For both of those cases, contact us at contact@allegorithmic.com so we can help you achieve this.
I’ll pick it up with support when they respond.
I’m still not clear on the perpetual licenses that will be available if I went the Live subscription route for X number of consecutive months. Thank you for clearing this up some. This software IS amazing!

Hi Nicolas, I’d also like to get some clarification on this, since I’m still a bit confused by the new versionless updates of both Painter and Designer.
