I have made a starup-disk with 10.4 before but that is not anymore possible

Ubuntu 16.04LTS 64bit, 16.04 Lubuntu 32-bit on eeePCs and OSX on a G4 800MHz iMac (iLamp). I think I have an W7 on one of my Virtualbox machine under 16.04LTS?

I have the same issue! Does somebody know something? I tried all the formating alternatives but I still have a problem!

I had the same problem, try this.
start your machine set to boot from your flashdrive.
when you get the error do this:
1) hit your «tab» key
2) type «live»
3) hit «enter»

it will load a live version of Ubuntu. from there you should be able to use the installer icon on your screen.

Each example I see of syslinux.cfg is different from mine, but the key lines are the same, and when you hit «tab» at the «boot» prompt you should see those options (label) for booting
live
xforcevesa
install
textonly
debug
memtest

. then, as noted by others, if you type one of these commands you will boot in that mode.

So type «live» and you will boot normally.

But, like you, I wanted to do it automatically; that’s how I got here; looking for answers. Not quick enough!!

*****Change the «default» where, at or near the first line of syslinux.cfg, it says

replace «vesamenu.c32» with «live» and voila. the autoboot we wanted!!

default live
prompt 0
timeout 300

menu title ArtistX DVD 1.0
menu background splash.png
menu color title 1;37;44 #c0ffffff #00000000 std
