I am slightly worried and I need a confirmation just to be sure. Today I got an e-mail saying «Your Steam account: Access from new computer». Upon viewing raw message, I can confirm that the e-mail is legit. There are few things to note tho:
> The e-mail came up at 6 am my time, when I was asleep and my computer was off
> The IP was from San Jose, California, I live in Rio, Brazil
> The title said «access from new COMPUTER, but I have logs of every single steam access and it always said «access from new device» and later «access from new web or device». This is the very first time it says «computer» in the header.
> My computer is not compromised, I can guarantee that, for I have performed checks by antivirus and an updated malwarebytes.
> This happened once in 2017, but I changed my password back then and it never happened again.
> I Changed my password via steam client.
> I usually don`t access steam outside of the client, BUT I used to access by my workplace’s computer, via google chrome, that was attacked more than once. Said computer broke two months ago.
> Recent Login History shows that I have never logged into steam outside of Rio.
Could it be that someone got the password from the compromised computer at work and just now is trying to get it? or could it just be a glitch?
I am considering the hypothesis of it being a glitch because I got that from Yahoo hen I logged into the e-mail on my phone (huehue), and by Uber Brazil, that had an issue where fake support e-mails were being sent by people trying to steal accounts.
I also know that my account does not use credit card info to buy stuff, and my steam wallet has like 2 dollars in it, so nothing really dangerous could be done. Still, I am very curious as what this could be.

I get this email about 10x a day. I have 2fa but it’s getting really annoying.
I changed my password a million times, double checked that my pc has no virus, created a very long and complicated password with numbers and symbols, set my account to private etc.
And even if my pc has a very hidden keylogger I also try changing my password through my iPhone and other computers, and without logging again in my home computer I get another email that someone with my password tried to log in to my steam.
Maybe this is that some major security flaw with steam? maybe a linked service that gets my password when I change, or someone in family sharing has a virus in their pc that’s getting my new password? (when I change my password my brother that’s on family sharing doesn’t have to retype my password to play my games so maybe? idk)
Please help. Anyone with the same problem got it fixed?
It could be that you have a different account that you forgot about, with the same hotmail adress registered, and that someone is trying to recover it. (they might think it’s theirs, or just trying to steal it)
1. Use a web browser to access https://store.steampowered.com/
2. Go to login (log out first if you’re logged in already).
3. Pretend that you forgot your password and then choose «I forgot my Steam Account name or password»
4. Enter your hotmail adress and click «search».
See if it finds an account. If it does, try logging in.
(Recover the account if you can’t figure out the password)

Better check PCs for viruses, search if the PCs arent acting weird, if it dont have installed something, what sites you were at, and check Task Manager if there isnt running something wierd. if that not it maybe its your brother pranking you 😀

But yea Microsoft had a exploit problem where scammers can email you spoof as any sender they wanted. Gmail had this problem years ago as well but they got it fixed, but not sure if Microsoft ever got this fixed at all, but if it’s happening again, then might need to be reported to support.
Do keep my posted if you’re getting spammed with your new email service you’re with.

Ok now it’s becoming weird, I created a Gmail and changed my steam email to it. But I’m still getting those emails of someone trying to enter my account on my hotmail/outlook, not my gmail that is now assigned to my steam.
Then as I assume those are most likely fake emails.
If you want check something, open one of those email you’re getting on your hotmail, but don’t click anything in it, hover your mouse over the link, and you see a highlight to the bottome left of your bowser URL address, and read it.

I have changed my password several times, run a virus scan every night, and yet I continue to get these emails. Can anyone help me figure out how to troubleshoot how it is that someone keeps getting my login info? I have the steam guard code enabled, so they will never be able to get in, but constantly getting emails about this is very disconcerting. Thanks in advance.

So now we 100% know it’s a different account you have bound to the same email address. Ironically, the bot hijackers somehow know the password or it’s either a common one you’ve used. Maybe your child created the account and forgot about it?
You have the account name so I would go through the account recovery process, claim it and then change the password and put it on a different email if you wish. At least your main account isn’t at risk. Main thing is just to change the password so the botters only have the account name and wont have the right password so a guard email wont be generated on every attempt.

Well, I’m getting those once in a while too. Since I’ve got 2FA running I don’t think they can get in regardless, but it’s upsetting.
I’ve checked the source of the message etc and IMHO things look genuine. The header is correct, the account-name is correct, the email is correct (obviously) and all url’s in there point to steampowered.com or steamcommunity.com or valvesoftware.com.
Even though I’ve got 2FA I’ve changed my pwd a couple of weeks ago into something completely random (via generator) and remarkably it seems they’ve brute-forced it again already?

You misunderstand. They don’t have your account name or your password. They are randomly sending these e-mails hoping to get whatever response they are seeking (either getting you to click on something to download a virus, or just a laugh that they got you to change your password). They are completely fake. The «login attempt» invariably comes from some remote corner of the world ( PK for pakistan, UZ for Uzbekistan, etc.) I think all of this «information» is randomly generated, as it is different in every one of the fake ones I’ve gotten. They don’t actually have your password. All they have is your e-mail address. They may be trying to get you to click on a link and enter your password, at which point they would actually have it.
Hopefully this clarifies my point.

Is the account name your actual account name? A lot of people find that it’s their display name, or a part of their email address which means one of two things either:
A) There is another account attached to your email with that account name, which you haven’t changed the password of yet.
B) It’s a phishing email.
You’d be surprised how often A is the case (a lot of people out there have Steam accounts they forgot they created).

Yeah, i just found out i had an other account attached to my e-mail which had 0 games and no content at all, thanks!
I updated the password for that account it might solve the problem!
